As World Vision Thailand celebrates its 50th anniversary and launches its Hero Campaign that seeks to honour its partners in bringing transformational change in the lives of the most vulnerable children and communities, Lee Junho, a Korean singer and actor, thanks the organisation’s partners, donors and sponsors as a World Vision Ambassador.

“Your partnership with World Vision Thailand in the past 50 years has brought significant impact in the lives of the children. You are our heroes,” he shares.

Lee Junho went on to share his own sponsorship journey, which began with supporting children in Ethiopia and Ghana in 2011. He became an ambassador the next year and has since been actively working with World Vision for over 10 years, advocating for and supporting children’s well-being.

“I am a child sponsor myself. I have personally seen how child sponsorship is not only transforming the life of one child, but also their families and the communities they live in,” he adds through the ‘Hero’ campaign.

Thanks to our community development approach of World Vision Thailand, for every child you sponsor, four more benefit too. Over the last 50 years, World Vision Thailand has been working with multiple stakeholders to ensure that every child grows up in an enabling environment — where they are cared for, protected and are empowered to thrive. World Vision Thailand’s work spans across improving child protection systems, providing access to quality education, clean water, health and nutrition, livelihood support for children and their families. To date, the organisation has impacted at least 11 million people in the country, over 7 million of whom are children.

But while much progress has been made over the last decades, the need is still massive and more work must be done. Thailand’s 2020 Human Capital Index (HCI) of 0.61 indicates that the future productivity of a child born today will be 39% below what could have been achieved with complete education and full health. The education system is also facing challenges, including a high drop-out rate, with up to 2% of students leaving school each year and 1.5 million young Thais who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
